Today we’re reducing our stress with ‘forest bathing’

Yesterday, we all worked to identify how stress manifests itself in our lives. Today, we’re learning about a proven stress reducer that the Japanese call, ‘forest bathing’.

Don’t worry! Forest bathing is not about taking a bath in the forest. Rather, forest bathing is where we go outside and take in with all of our senses the outside. This is considered to be medicinal and has a calming and restorative effect on our bodies.

You don’t necessarily need to be in a forest to get the effects. Simply go outside and take experience all that you see. Smell the air. Touch the trees, grass or flowers. Feel the air on your skin and see all that there is around you.

Here are just a few of the benefits for our bodies:

  • Lowers levels of the stress hormone, cortisol

  • Decreases blood pressure

  • Improves recovery from surgery or illness

  • Boosts our mood

  • Boosts our concentration

  • Boosts our energy

Sundays are a great day to get outside and simply be for a bit. Bring a friend for an added stress reducer!
