Which of the following has the least amount of calories from added sugar?

  • A. 1 Tall (12 oz) Starbucks Sweetened Iced Green Tea

  • B. 1 packet of Quaker Instant Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

  • C. 2 tbsp of Trader Joes Balsamic Vinaigrette

  • D. 2 tbsp of Hunt's BBQ Sauce

    Scroll down for the answer!

Answer: C!

Did you get it? Condiments can be surprising sources of added sugar. The Trader Joe's Balsamic Vinaigrette has 5 grams of added sugar per serving. This is a little over a teaspoon of sugar per serving. One way to reduce the amount of sugar is to reduce the serving, make your own vinaigrette (some recipes are over in the Dining Tent) or simply use olive oil and balsamic vinegar. You can choose to buy unsweetened and add your own sweetener. You’ll still usually use less than the manufacturers put in an item.

Here's how the other items break down:

  • 2 tbsp of BBQ Sauce: 10 g.

  • 1 (12 oz) Starbucks Sweetened Iced Green Tea: 15 g.

  • 1 packet of Quaker Instant Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal: 16 g.

Remember, our goal this week is to keep our daily consumption of added sugar to under the recommended 6 tsp. per day(or 24 grams)!

Now, let’s Reboot Our Glutes! Beginners and Advanced can try this one. Beginners, skip using a ball.
