Rise and Shine, Boot Camper! How should we start our day at camp?

The way that we start our day can set the tone for the rest of the day. Do you wake up feeling you’re already behind? Do you listen to the news and feel stressed before you even walk out the door? Do you read your news feed or emails before you even get out of bed? Or, maybe you wake up and you’re already thinking about when you can fall back in bed at the end of the day?

Think of your morning routine.

If you could choose, how would you like to feel as you begin your day? Is there something you could do no matter how big or small that would help you begin your day in a more deliberate fashion? Sometimes, seemingly tiny actions can have big ripple effects throughout our day. 

Here are some small steps that can have a big impact:

  1. Try 1 of our Joy Boosters for our weekly challenge. Write down 3 things that you’re grateful for in the morning before the world wakes up. Or, start your day by writing a two-minute positive e-mail or text praising or thanking one person you know.

  2. Set your alarm clock for 5 minutes earlier than usual. Do not press snooze. Get up. Enjoy your extra five to do part of a weekly workout, sun salutations, hear yourself think or just enjoy a cup of coffee while you look at the sunrise.

  3. At the end of the day, write out your to do list. Or, put out your workout clothes. Or, just go to sleep. Often what we do at night, sets the tone for the next day.

  4. Put on some happy tunes! Music can completely change our mood because of it’s effect on our limbic system. Start your day with some music that energizes, calms or just makes you happy.

Today’s challenge and for the rest of our program is to choose to do one thing that will help you begin your day in a deliberate way!
