We all have days those when everything feels like too much. We may feel overwhelmed with the emotions that we’re feeling, things that are beyond our control or maybe the length of our to-do list. In those moments when we’re wondering what to do with it all, try 1 or try all 5 of these techniques to help you cut through the overwhelm and feel centered.
Breathe. Ahhhh….the power of a deep breath. This is so simple that we often overlook it’s power. Take 3 deep breaths into your belly. See if you can inhale for a count of 4 and exhale for a count of 4. Then, notice how you feel.
What is something you can do? Instead of thinking of everything that has to be done, think of something that can be done. Then, go and do that one thing. Repeat as needed.
Trust. Maybe you’ve been in this space before or maybe it’s terrifyingly unfamiliar, either way, trust that you can handle whatever challenge is on your plate. Whenever you hear yourself doubting yourself or your abilities, remind yourself of how strong you are.
Step Away. There’s nothing quite so healing and refreshing as a walk. I promise you that you will feel better after a just a 10 minute walk. For maximum impact, try to go outside.
Extend your hand. Maybe you need a hand today or maybe someone else needs a hand, asking for help or helping someone else is one of the most powerful things we can do to improve our own well-being and someone else’s well-being.
Whenever that overwhelming starts creeping over you, pause. Then, practice one of the above techniques.
You will feel better!
