2020 Gift Guide

This holiday season is going to be different! But, many of us are keeping up with our gift traditions and looking for some ideas. Some of these ideas are very ‘2020’ but good for now or later! Keep checking back for updates.

Note: None of these recommendations are sponsored. And, we do not receive any commission or affiliate fees. These are my own unbiased recommendations.

Staying active and healthy is always important but especially now. Here are some ideas to help keep you moving and also help build you’re own at home workout area without breaking the bank.

  • Sport Masks. Under Armour is just 1 company that is offering masks specifically for use during your workout.

  • Bands: These are so functional and don’t take up much space. They are also easy on our joints and give us the benefit of eccentric and concentric strength gains as well as working isometrically. You can find them in lots of stores.

  • Yoga Mats. There are lots of different kinds but they’re essential for any type of workouts. And, just seeing your mat rolled up in the corner, is a reminder to get off the couch and get moving.

  • Yoga Blocks. These are not just for beginners. They’re so useful and can give your at-home practice a boost. Whether allowing you to go deeper in a pose or enjoying a supported shoulder stand, you’ll love them. Again, available in lots of different places. I recommend 9 x 6 x 4 inches dimensions for maximum stability.

  • Foam Roller and Compression Ball - WFH takes a toll on our neck, chest, back, glute and leg muscles. Roll them out with a foam roller or compression ball.

  • Meditation Bolster - A friend of mine gave this to me for my birthday and I love it. Not only is it great for meditation but it also serves as a trigger when I see it to meditate.

  • Stand Up Desk. This model is not just a stand up desk but one that also can slide right over your exercise bike.

  • TRX Suspension System. All you need for an overall workout.

  • Purchase a customized workout plan, WFH Stretching Plan or a health coaching package for you or with some of your friends.

Stay at home fun! These ideas will not only help keep people entertained but some will also help to boost brain health.

    • Online Workshops. One of the benefits of 2020 and zoom is that we can take workshops from all over the world on lots of different topics. Check out cooking schools, museums, or Departments of Natural Resources. Check out Picture the Good Studio for virtual workshops for kids and adults. While you’re there, you can even purchase a gift certificate for a photography package too.

    • Jenga

    • Puzzles

    • Books

    • Purchase a musical instrument and take virtual lessons.

    • Farkle. This can be easily be played over zoom with family or friends.

    • Candy Land. Have a favorite little one in your life that you’re missing? Send them Candy Land and you can play virtually. You can let them spin and move your piece on the board.

Support local businesses! Here are just a few of the businesses that would love your business!

    • Restaurants. Try purchasing gift cards to any local businesses that are struggling to keep going through the winter. Gift cards for takeout from someone’s favorite restaurant not only helps support the restaurant but also gives someone the night off from cooking.

    • Outdoor photography sessions. Contact your favorite photographer! If you’re in the MD/VA/DC area, I highly recommend Emily Karcher Photography! She’s fantastic and also who took the pictures you see of me on this site. She brings out your best self and then brings it forward in a photograph. And, she’s great with kids!

    • Spa services. You can purchase gift cards for the future.

    • Local chocolate shops. La Cascade du Chocolat is one of our favorites! This chocolate shop is run by an old friend and his wife. You can be confident that the chocolate was made with love and I can personally attest to it being delicious! For the maximum health benefits of dark chocolate, aim for 70 % or more cacao.

These are just a few ideas! Keep checking back as I’ll add more as they come to me! Don’t forget to remember your favorite charities. World Central Kitchen and Feeding America are two of my favorites.

    Happy Holidays!
