Uncertainty and Anxiety - Words of 2020

Uncertainty breeds anxiety. And, let's face it, 2020 has been filled with uncertainty! Recently, I was recently asked how to reduce anxiety, especially if you don't like to meditate. Here are some ideas that are good for everyone.

1. Give yourself permission to feel everything you're feeling. We can waste a lot of energy trying to deny our own feelings. Acknowledge them, own them and then go move forward.

2. Writing an emotion down- as simple as putting it on a sticky note - can help create distance between us and it so we can manage it.

3. Get outside. I know it may be getting cold but embrace your inner Norwegian, throw on some warm clothes and get some sunshine and fresh air.

4. Get some exercise. This not only boosts our mood but also our immune system and keeps our muscles strong! Just 10 minutes of exercise has shown to be as effective as a mild anti-depressant.

5. Call a friend, preferably one who makes you laugh. Social connection is incredibly important to our well-being, especially when we can’t be together with people in our usual ways. Try going for the trifecta and do all 3 at once - go outside, exercise and call a friend💪

And, always remind yourself that how you're feeling today is not how you'll feel forever! You can do this!
